Bolinas composer probes themes of domestic violence

Aerialist Shannon Gray in "Eve, an Opera"

It’s not every opera that comes embodied by the exertions of an aerial artist, and it’s probably even rarer to encounter a work that uses a range of musical and theater arts to illuminate the subject of domestic violence. But such is the unusual nature of “Eve, An Opera,” which comes to San Francisco for a single performance.

A collaboration between Bolinas composer Andrea Densmore and her son, composer Tony Owen, “Eve” draws on a host of Bay Area artists to create a multidisciplinary show. AerialistShannon Gray is part of the performing ensemble, along with representatives ofCircus Bella, Megan Lowe Dancesand the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir Ensemble. An instrumental ensemble is drawn from members of theSan Francisco Operaand Balletorchestras as well as the New Century Chamber Orchestra.

The piece probes Densmore’s history as a survivor of domestic abuse, in a performance keyed to Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

“Eve, An Opera”: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28. $25-$300. Palace of Fine Arts, 3301 Lyon St., S.F.www.eveopera.com
